V60 pour-over coffee brewing method

Agitation plays a crucial role in the V60 pour-over coffee brewing method. Proper agitation ensures an even extraction of flavors from the coffee grounds, leading to a balanced and delicious cup. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to make agitation in a V60:

Materials Needed:

- V60 dripper
- V60 filter
- Freshly ground coffee
- Kettle with hot water
- Scale
- Timer
- Stirring utensil (e.g., bamboo paddle or spoon)

Steps:

1. Prepare Your Equipment:

Set up your V60 dripper on top of your coffee mug or server. Place a V60 filter in the dripper and rinse it with hot water to remove any paper taste and preheat the brewing apparatus.

2. Measure and Add Coffee:

Weigh out the desired amount of coffee based on your preferred coffee-to-water ratio. For a standard V60 recipe, a common ratio is 1:15 (1 gram of coffee to 15 grams of water). Place the coffee grounds in the center of the V60 filter.

3. Bloom:

Start your timer and pour hot water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion, ensuring all the grounds are saturated. Allow the coffee to bloom for about 30 seconds. During this time, carbon dioxide is released, and the coffee bed swells.

4. Agitation - The Pour:

After the bloom, start pouring water in a spiral motion, moving from the center outward. As you pour, use a stirring utensil to gently agitate the coffee grounds. This helps ensure an even extraction.

5. Continue Pouring:

Maintain a steady and controlled pour, keeping the water level consistent. Pour in stages, allowing the water to flow through the coffee grounds without flooding the V60. Continue stirring during each pour to encourage even extraction.

6. Controlled Pouring and Agitation:

Adjust your pouring speed and agitation based on the coffee's freshness, grind size, and desired extraction time. Experiment with different techniques to find the optimal balance.

7. Complete the Pour:

Once you've reached your desired coffee-to-water ratio, give the V60 a gentle swirl to level the coffee bed.

8. Allow for Drainage:

Let the coffee drip through the V60 until the dripping stops. This is an indication that the brewing process is complete.

9. Serve and Enjoy:

Remove the V60 from your coffee mug or server, give your coffee a final swirl, and enjoy your freshly brewed pour-over coffee.

Remember, the key to successful agitation in the V60 method is maintaining consistency while being mindful of factors like grind size, water temperature, and pouring technique. Adjust these variables based on your taste preferences to achieve the perfect cup of pour-over coffee.
